This episode is a little bit different from your typical format because it’s written as a podcast transcript for Taylor’s podcast, Casting Shadows.
Fun little behind-the-scenes tidbit: I was originally going to have the person that Taylor is talking to be Sarah, from The Absence of Aurelia Perez. Here’s a scene where Paige interviews Sarah when she’s looking for Aurelia.
“Hi, Sarah, right?” I asked, with a grin.
Sierra gave me a look that said tone it down. “She does cheer with me. She’s a flyer, obviously.”
I nodded enthusiastically, and Sarah shrugged.
“So, what did you want to talk about?” she asked. She sat her bag in her lap and folded her arms over it.
I glanced at Sierra. “Oh, well, Sierra was supposed to ask you if you’d be willing to answer some questions about Aurelia?”
Sarah sat up in alarm. “What? I thought this was about fundraising.”
Sierra shrugged dismissively. “It could be about both.”
“Oh, don’t leave! It’s okay. I just had some questions. Uh, Miguel asked me to help look for her, and since he’s in the hospital now-“
“I don’t want to,” Sarah said, firmly. She clutched her backpack and eyed the door.
Later, we find out that Sarah works at the coffee stand in town. But there is one pretty big reason why Sarah cannot appear in this story, so last minute I had to change it to Jenny. Both girls definitely did attend parties at Ainsworth Manor in the earlier books, but Sarah is… unavailable for comment.
