When tragedy strikes in a small town, everyone’s lives are caught in the ripple. Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica is the latest audiobook that I have read and wow, it is a twisty, wild tale that is worth a read. Some of the twists are unbelievable and I think there are a few plot holes that other readers have gotten hung up on (after looking at other reviews) but overall, this is an interesting story that definitely keeps you hanging on every word.

In this smart and chilling thriller, master of suspense Mary Kubica, author of Just the Nicest Couple, takes domestic secrets to a whole new level, showing that some people will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried.
People don’t just disappear without a trace…
Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, vanish just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen, striking fear into their once-peaceful community. Are these incidents connected? After an elusive search that yields more questions than answers, the case eventually goes cold.
Now, eleven years later, Delilah shockingly returns. Everyone wants to know what happened to her, but no one is prepared for what they’ll find…
Don’t miss Mary Kubica’s chilling upcoming novel, She’s Not Sorry, where an ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient’s frightening past…
Devastatingly Sad and Irresistibly Compelling
The story follows multiple characters in a sad tale about two young mothers who have gone missing, shortly after each other. Meredith and her young daughter Delilah go missing, leaving her husband and toddler son, Leo, behind. On the same street, new mom Shelby goes missing as well. The story follows Leo, Meredith, and Kate (a friend and neighbor of Meredith’s) as they carry us through the story.
There are so many twists and turns (I feel like I keep saying that) but it really is true. Every chapter I was left slack-jawed wondering how things could possibly shift again. I didn’t guess the ending by any means. I don’t generally like stories involving young children, but the first chapter of this book opens with the perspective of a young girl who has been kidnapped and kept in captivity for 11 years. Because of this, there was some assurance that Delilah at least did not get murdered. This kept me wondering how on earth she ended up there and what happened to her mom??
After reading this book, I’m really struggling to write about it without spoiling the entire thing. I hope that some of you read it and then comment below about it so that we can chat. This would be a fantastic book club pick! There is a lot to discuss and many little details that the author lets you piece together for yourself. Go read it!
