This year I will be participating in Nanowrimo. I’m not going to be writing a 50k word novel but I am going to be writing two 25k word novellas. I have wanted to finish these projects for a while, so this is a good excuse to finish the first drafts.
I’m no stranger to writing daily. I’ve had the goal of writing 2,000 words a day for over a year now. I have been pretty good about reaching that goal. Unless I’m editing because I’m generally not trying to add too many words. I haven’t been motivated in October to hit my word goals each day, so it helps to have something like Nanowrimo where I am accountable to others. I’m going to try to update my blog once a week during Nanowrimo so you can see my progress. My update might be something as simple as “I’M DOING FINE” but I will do my best to update.
I see a lot of “Nanowrimo prep” about essentially preparing for the apocalypse, but don’t let that intimidate you. You don’t really need to eat only freezer food and canned soups. Since I write daily, I generally just squeeze in my writing whenever can. I write when I’m exhausted, just before my head hits the pillow. I write when my eyes burn from waking up at some filthy hour before the sun. If you want to do it, you just do. This year, I decided to make only “easy meals” during Nanowrimo. I’m saying no to complicated recipes and sticking with stir fry. Don’t stress too much if you didn’t prepare a freezer full of meals, you’ll be okay. Just don’t host any holidays at your house.
If you want to help keep me accountable then add me on Nanowrimo or follow me on Twitter @Elizastopps. My name on Nanowrimo is: ejstopps. Good luck on your writing journey. You can do this!
