The first week of Nanowrimo is over. I have done okay so far. November 5th-7th I was way under my word count goals. However, if I had stuck to the average from day 1 of about 1700 words for 7 days it would have been just 11,900 words. I’m not too far away. Here is my day-by-day progress so far:
Before Nanowrimo began:
10/24/16: 2070 words
10/30/16: 497 words
During Nanowrimo:
11/01/16: 1704 words
11/02/16: 1880 words
11/03/16: 1690 words
11/04/16: 2291 words
11/05/16: 880 words
11/06/16: 742 words
11/07/16: 95 words
Total word count: 11188 words
I had a little bit of a head start with this project because it’s actually a sequel to a novella I wrote a few months ago. The characters, plot outline, and universe already existed. I’m essentially filling in the blanks as I go. The hardest part so far has been experimenting with a new point of view.
I am writing this novella from the first person perspective of a side character in a previous book. Each of the novella’s in the series can stand on their own but exist in the same world. I am pretty comfortable in third person and I wanted to practice a new perspective. I might rewrite this book when I’m done to be third person and match the first novella. I might not. Either way, it’s good practice for me.
For those of you that are following me on Nanowrimo, you might notice that my graph is a little bit off compared to my results above. This is just because I am adding the total word count as I go and since I started out the first day having written the first chapter, my average is a bit off. After I have finished the novella, I will post a more accurate graph on my blog.
I’m feeling confident I will finish the novella by my due date of November 14th as long as I write 1900-2000 words each day. I’ll post here next week with another update. Good luck to those of you participating!
