I just finished reading this book tag on Kristin Brand’s blog, so I thought it would be fun to do it myself! If book tags are your thing, consider yourself tagged!
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I read everywhere. If Iām listening to an audiobook, Iām probably busy doing my chores or out in the garden. For physical books, I curl up on the couch and cozy up!
2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I have quite a few bookmarks, but they seem to always be missing when I need them. In the two books at my desk with me, there is a landscaperās business card and a torn receipt in use. Not very fashionable, but they were nearby.
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
Good question. With physical books, I like to stop on a fresh set of pages. So, that I can sit my bookmark in it and start reading at the top of the left-hand page without worrying about where I left off. With eBooks or audiobooks, I will stop wherever.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
Sure. Though, Iām a little pickier about what Iām eating while reading paperbacks. I made the mistake of eating hot Cheetos and reading when I was a teenager and I wouldnāt do that again.
5. Multitasking ā Music or TV while reading?
Iāll listen to lo-fi beats occasionally, but nothing with lyrics because that is too distracting. I canāt watch TV while reading and I will never understand people who can!
6. One book at a time or several at once?
Several. I will usually have one main book that Iām trying to finish by a certain date, such as one that I am reviewing, and then Iāll have a few casual books on the side. If one of those books really captures my attention, I might get lost in it for a while and forget about the others. I love when that happens.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere! I love having the Kindle app on my phone because I can always read a book while waiting at the dentist’s or wherever Iām at. I read in short bursts, sometimes even 10 minutes at a time, so I just read whenever I get the chance.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
I read aloud to my kids, but not for myself. I actually read the first two Harry Potter books aloud and I think I nearly lost my voice. Oof.
9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
Oh yes. When I was a teenager, I used to skip to the last chapter of any book I was going to read and read that first. I felt rebellious and it usually told me whether or not it was worth it to dig into the book. I donāt do that anymore, but I have no shame about skipping around. With non-fiction books, I might skip a section entirely if it annoys me.
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I wouldnāt give it a hard bend or anything, but I wonāt cry about my books having lots of lines down the spine.
11. Do you write in your books?
If Iām reading non-fiction, I whip out my highlighters and go after it like Iām at a Bible study. I will underline, leave notes to myself in the margins, and mark it up. With fiction, I usually keep post-it notes on hand and a little notebook to write down any quotes that I want to include in a review or important details that I am worried I might forget.
I’m excited to do this one again! My reading habits have changed since I wrote this blog tag last time, so it’s going to be fun!
