I’ve been sitting on the outline for the third book in the Paige Parker mysteries series for a long time now, but I just recently started “actually” writing the story.
I rewrote the outline quite a few times. I knew there were a few elements that I wanted to include in the story. I wanted there to be an eccentric podcast duo that Paige works with. Maybe she’s solving a mystery with them, maybe she’s a listener, maybe she’s just curious about the true crime/paranormal world.
The Ainsworth Manor has been a character in the first two books, as much as a place can be, and I wanted to really dive into it with the third book. Why does it seem haunted? Who was upstairs when the kids hid in there on Halloween? What does this creepy old house have to do with the mysteries stirring in Ecola Bay?
Speaking of homes, I also wanted to give some conclusion to the status of Zeze’s home (but I won’t go into much detail here.)
I also wanted to revisit a few of the favorite characters, but we know that the three friends, Paige, Owen, and Sierra are going to be parting ways. They have graduated high school and are moving on to college.
Where does Paige end up at the end of Book 2? She struggles to cope with some of the things she has seen and experienced. Paige decides to take a gap year, which is somewhat of a lonely endeavor since all her friends have gone off to “bigger and brighter things.” She’s trying to navigate the world, that suddenly seems a lot darker than it used to be, and trying to kickstart her own career. I really wanted to explore this idea that Paige is not quite as naive as she once was, that she has had to look behind the curtain and now she’s forced to deal with the reality of these situations.
The case in this book will focus on a cold case from 1970, as well as a case happening in real-time. Are the two cases somehow related?
After I have enough progress on the story, I might decide to post it on Kindle Vella as I write (as I have in the past.) Otherwise, I will just write the entire story and then publish it straight to Kindle Unlimited and paperback.
