Narratess Indie Book Sale [Guest Post]

by | Apr 13, 2024 | Book Blog, Marketing | 0 comments

Today’s guest post comes from Tessa Hastjarjanto! Today, she is sharing about the Narratess Indie Book Sale which is happening between April 13 – 15th. Keep reading to find out more!

Twice a year, I invite fantasy, science-fiction, and horror authors to join me in a big
promotional event called the Narratess Indie Sales. The last time we ran the sale in August
of last year, we had 170 authors join in and this time we have even more! It’s a great
opportunity for authors to find new readers while readers might find their new favourite
author.

In December 2021, I started thinking of marketing opportunities for the next year, and asked
a few friends if they want to do a coordinated sale together. I’ve seen them floating around
before and I think many people will be familiar with newsletter swaps or the Bookfunnel
promotions. This would be the same but instead of asking people to sign up for your
newsletter, it would be to boost your sales and ranking.

Without getting too technical, it pays off teaching a retailer’s algorithm people want to buy
your book in the long run. And you make money doing it.

At the same time, readers can find a ton of great books in one spot. Since the authors are
incredibly diverse, some with bigger audiences than others, every single book gets new eyes
on it. We crowdsource the readers by combining our social media presence to spread the
word to keep it free and accessible for as many people as possible.

It’s hard for an indie author to find their readers, but the same goes for readers. The market
moves so quickly that it’s hard to keep up with all new releases. And indie authors just don’t
get the same marketing push as books from the Big 4 publishing houses.

The sales have grown steadily over the years. More authors, more visitors, more subgenres.
It’s incredible to see the indie community come together in #indieapril to celebrate the
passion of readers and authors. We’ll continue to build the platform where we can connect
readers with more books they’ll love.

I want to extend a huge thank you to Tess for sharing about the Indie Book Sale! I think it’s a fantastic idea to help get the word out about some fantastic Indie books. I hope some of you will go check it out if you are in the market for new fantasy, sci-fi, or horror reads!

What book are you excited to read this year?
