Bookishly: Classic of the Month Club [Review]

Trying Out a Book Subscription

I have always wanted to try a book subscription box and this was my first time giving it a go. I decided to try out Bookishly’s Classic of the Month because it comes with coffee and a classic book. I was fairly surprised that the shipping was so reasonable, considering it does ship from the UK (and I’m in the US.)

This is a subscription that I paid for with my own money and I’m not being paid to feature them on my website. I just thought it would make for some fun additions to my 30 Days of Blogging and I love to try new things!

The Book: Persuasion by Jane Austen

The “Classic of the Month” that I received was Persuasion by Jane Austen. The book and coffee arrived in this super cute flat rate package (not in a box) that has a design printed on top of it. I had no idea that Bookishly had been around since 2009, so I found that pretty neat.

The book actually has a beautiful dust cover on it, with the original book cover design still on the book. This is such a genius idea for marketing because they were able to make bookmarks and a cute card about the book to match the cover. It’s also much prettier than the “real” cover.

I have never read Persuasion, so I was glad that I didn’t accidentally end up with a novel that I already owned. However, I’m sure it would be easy to gift the novel to someone else or keep both versions since the Bookishly cover is so much different from the originals.

The book came in this cute wrapping paper, obviously wrapped by hand, which I thought was super cute as well. They also had this little Thank You inside.

The Coffee: PERKuLATTE Coffee Co Tanzania PB Mbili Twiga

I was really excited to see what type of coffee arrived with the book and this coffee smells absolutely amazing. When you order your subscription, you also have the option to order tea instead. I chose coffee since I drink a lot of coffee and I was curious what type they might send over from the UK. This coffee states that it was roasted on January 22nd, making it super fresh, and it has notes of blackberry, blueberry, camomile, and toffee. I couldn’t wait to try a cup!

The Price: $16.47 + Shipping

I think this subscription is a reasonable price. I didn’t pay much for shipping (I don’t remember exactly, but it was under $10.00). And I think this subscription would be a really lovely gift.

Ordering from CrateJoy

This was my first experience working with CrateJoy and I hadn’t actually realized that Bookishly existed outside of them. On their website, you can order previous crates and shop their clearance section. I might have tried that first, had I known you could.

I don’t believe I have ever ordered from CrateJoy before and I did want to order just one month of the subscription. (It defeats the point of the subscription, I know, but I wanted to try a few and didn’t want to get stuck in with more than one.) Despite ordering just one month of the subscription, it does automatically renew the next month. So, you have to go to your orders and click “Manage Subscriptions” and then cancel your subscription. This doesn’t cancel or refund the current month but does stop it from renewing. I think it could be a little less work to order just one month of the box, but it is possible to do so.

The current system is a little bit confusing, but I know it is built around the idea that it is a subscription model.

Conclusion

I think the Classic of the Month subscription would be really fun for readers who love to receive a little treat for themselves and want to build a collection of beautiful classic novels. If you are looking for a subscription that is under $20.00 a month (shipping will vary) and you love to try out new things, I think you will enjoy Bookishly’s Classic of the Month.
