Hello everyone! I’m excited to be able to share some news with you today. I recently submitted a short story to Wild Ink Press for their middle-grade anthology, Calliope’s Collection of Mystical Mayhem, and it was accepted!

My story, Adventures of Barnaby and Clovis, is featured along with many other authors and poets in this fun and whimsical anthology. These stories are designed for readers ages 9-14 years old, but we hope they are enjoyable for readers of all ages.

There are some beautiful illustrations by Emily St. Marie throughout the book that really bring the whole thing to life. The eBook has color illustrations and the print is in black and white.

The eBook will be available for pre-order starting May 31st. The official launch date for Calliope’s Collection of Mystical Mayhem is June 14th!

From the description:

Calliope has been working hard to bring together a group of writers and poets to delight you with tales of whimsey, mayhem, and wonder. Soon you will be able to curl up and be transported through a magical adventure.

Calliope, your muse, is ready to welcome you.

Adventures of Barnaby and Clovis

The story that I wrote for this anthology is about a young boy named Weston who is starting middle school for the first time. He is devastated to learn that his friend from elementary school, Easton, is in his classes once again. Weston, who is concerned about being teased for their names, tries to avoid his old friend and is even rude to him. He hides from Easton in the school library and stumbles upon an odd glowing book called Adventures of Barnaby and Clovis. Weston brings the book home and to his surprise, a dragon and an ogre crawl their way out of the pages, and it is now up to Weston and Easton to return them.

This is a story about accepting who you are, friendship, and overcoming life’s challenges. I hope that readers will find this story entertaining and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

I have children, so it was very fun for me to write a story that they could read (instead of my typical works, which are more mature) and that they could bring to their school and show off to their class.

Get This Anthology in Your Town!

You can request that your local libraries purchase Calliope’s Collection of Mystical Mayhem. Libraries often have a form that members can fill out to make book requests, you will simply need to bring the ISBN numbers with you. If you aren’t sure how to go about it, ask your librarian for help! They are usually some of the most helpful and knowledgeable folks around.

When I have the ISBN and the book goes live on June 14th, I will be posting it in a separate blog update.

Thanks for reading!
